Vista Getting Better....But Not Quite There Yet

This past week I spent literally HOURS working on my father's computer. In short, he utilizes some conversion hardware and software that is designed to not only convert audio from analog sources such as tapes and records to a digital format on your computer, but also remove the standard pops/hisses/clicks. It was only AFTER we upgraded my father's computer to Vista that we found out that the

Integrity in the Businessplace

Whilst applying for a contracting position recently at an IT consulting firm, I spoke with a recruiter who, after reviewing my resume, said that they'd hoped that they could find someone who could "hit the ground running." Translation: I was weak in one or two areas. Which I never had any problem admitting. No IT guy is strong in every facet of what he does.In any event, I was told that they
Comparing Apples to...uh, Gateways

One of the things that I recently pointed out in my article (diatribe, some might say) is that the old argument about Apples 'being so much more expensive' carries no weight. It's often been hard, however, to compare like products.Well, with the advent of the Gateway One, I can indeed do this...and I think that you'll agree that not only does the iMac hold its own, but proves to be a much better

In the last week or so I have probably talked to no less than 15 or 20 people whose computers have been overtaken by spyware, and/or have found their computers loaded with pictures of porn and the like. In a closely related subject (but one for another topic, in the 'Faith' area), I've also had one or two friends find out that a member of their family was dealing with either trying to stop
My thoughts on Vista

I'd like to preface this by saying that this is only my opinion; I'm not an analyst, nor is mine the defining voice on what one should or should not buy. This being said, however, I AM a network admin/computer tech, and I do troubleshoot computers on a daily basis, so it does give me a certain insight. My personal opinion, in short, is that Vista *IS* an improvement upon Windows XP, depending
Why I Own A Mac...

I own 2 Macs at home, and I usually get 3 different kinds of responses:1. "Really? Do you like it? I don't know much about them."2. "Me too! I love it!"3. "Oh...you're one of THOSE."I thought I'd explain a bit about why I own 2 Macs. First, however, I will preface it by saying that no, I've not always been a Mac fanboy. Matter of fact, up until about 1.5 years ago I had NEVER owned one,
Spyware, Adware, Viruses.....

Rarely does a day go by without the following conversation taking place:Someone: "Say, could you take a look @ my computer? It's running real slow..."Me: *sigh*Most of the time it's due to one of the following:1. Someone's hard drive being full, or near to being full.2. A computer that's been around since Jesus wore sandals.3. Infestations of spyware, adware, or viruses.#1 occurs quite a
Second verse, same as the first!

Well, this will be my second first post. The software I am using (Rapidweaver) is spiffy, but uses blog software that I'm really not all that familiar with OR attracted to; and so I attempted to integrate my site with Wordpress.com. Unfortunately, it takes a LOT of work; and in the midst of all that I deleted a page. Argh. So I bought a nice plugin to Rapidweaver that does exactly what I want
